Daily Life in the Jensen Home

Here are some pictures from this last week. Here you see Allison sleeping with her books - a common sight in our home - if it's not books, it's puzzles . . . and Allison and Carter playing in the sandbox.

So today was a devasting day just north of us. I guess a tornado started about 10 miles north of where we live and headed north through the Greely area. I was a bit clueless as to what was going on - I had spent most of the day with the kids at a children's museum in Lafayette . . . but watching the news - it was huge! We've never seen tornadoes like this in Colorado.

Pine Wood Derby

Tonight was our first annual Webster Lake Ward derby race. Anthony and Allison had fun making our Jensen Duckmobile. Not only was it super cute . . . but it was fast! It took the bronze, and won a fine matchbox car as a prize. It was so much fun - Alli and all the kids sat by the race track and cheered - and played with all the cars after the races.

So today was my first day in nursery. I was recently released from being the primary chorister . . . which I have been doing for almost 3 years! I loved that calling! So fun to be with the kids - but I'm excited about nursery. It was a bit crazy though today. I had planned a bunch of fun things about being thankful for our hands . . . and things were going really well - but then it seemed just like one thing after another. Suddenly 3 kids needed to go to the restroom. This little boy - who's first week it was in nursery was doing so well . . . but then he suddenly lost it and was going bonkers - and then the stake lady who was visiting (it was ward conference) walked in to observe. :) great! It was OK though - Anthony had come in a little before to help . . . and he was able to sing some songs with the kids while I went to handle the crises. Anyway - I'm excited about nursery - the kids are so fun! And probably the best part about today - was Allison was amazing during sacrament meeting! She quietly played with her quiet book and then when she got tired with that - she reached up for Anthony's ear - pulled it towards her and quietly whispered, "I need something else to do". Perfect! Carter on the other hand wasn't so wonderful - he was tired and ornery - and so I spent most of the meeting out in the hall . . . when it was time for the intermediate hymn - I wasn't quite sure if it was time or not . . . so I asked Anthony and I noticed nobody was getting up - so I figured it was - so I went up to play the song and started in . . . and then the chorister kept giving me this funny look. I checked back at the hymn number- saw I was on the right page - so kept playing the introduction. Still I could tell something was wrong - so I finally realized that I was playing the closing hymn rather than the intermediate hymn. I carefully finished the introduction, turned the page to the correct hymn and started again. Oh dear!

Saturday Fun

So today was a fun day. Anthony was able to spend most of the day out in the garage putting together his new toy . . . a fancy dancey table saw. He's been looking at this saw at home depot for over a year now - and finally decided it was time to purchase it. Yay! He has this dresser he started before Allison was born - and now will be able to finish it. I have such a handy husband! The other happy news is that Allison is doing so well with potty training! I started training her a little after she turned two . . .and it was aweful! I tried for about 1/2 a day - and then gave up (I know - not very persevering of me). She wasn't ready and more importantly I wasn't ready. So I've been putting it off until I was absolutely sure she was ready and I was up for it - and it's going so well! It's so much better. And I figured out a little trick. I struggled initially with getting her to want to sit on the potty - so I made a little dice and on each of the 6 sides was something she could do while sitting on the potty - coloring, singing, watching a movie, playdoh, puzzles, and reading books. When it was time to sit on the potty she got to roll the dice to see what she would do while she sat. It was wonderful! She keeps asking if it's potty time so she gets to roll the dice. She did try several times to deliberately roll the dice to TV time . . . but other than that it's great! Such a relief.

Camille's Visit

Anthony's sister Camille came out to visit last month. We had a lot of fun. Here Camille and Carter are about to be squirted by Anthony and Allison in the paddle boats.

Carter is growing up so fast! He really is such a delight. He is my physical kid. He was starting to crawl a little after 6 months and has been walking and climbing up stairs since 9 months. He just loves to move - and loves being outside. Whenever I have to go out the back door he runs (walks really really fast) to the back door to try to get out. He's like a little puppy!
